Philippa Garland - Producer
Ashleigh Nguyen - Director
Ashleigh is a second year English student at St. Anne's. Before coming to Oxford
she directed a number of improvised comedy pieces for children called Mushrooms
and Off The Wall. She also acted and designed for her school productions of
Antony and Cleopatra; and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, a musical by Frank Loesser. She founded Magic Lantern Productions - St. Anne's
Drama Society, ran St. Anne's Film Society for two successful terms and is the
current Art and Literature Representative of the JCR. In Oxford, Ashleigh
directed M is For Moon (BT, MT 04), marketed for Absolutely {Perhaps} (OFS, TT05) and stage-managed Double Vision (O'Reilly TT05). She wrote and directed two short films: Dorian - The Last Chapter (HT05) and The Convent Threshold (HT05), which won second prize in the Filming Literature Competition 2005. This
year she produced the costumes for Orestes (Playhouse MT05), marketed for Boston Marriage (BT, MT05), Fuente Ovejuna (Playhouse, HT05) and the recent Oxshorts Film Festival at the Phoenix which was attended by BBC director Ken Loach and Oscar-winning producer Judy Counihan. She also produced Measure For Measure
(OFS, MT05) and The Well Of The Saints (BT, MT05). Last term she directed The
Jew of Malta (OFS, HT6) and swore never to do another play.
Julie Vatain - Dramaturg
Julie started acting when she was very little, and never really stopped. A
visitor from the Sorbonne university at St Catherine's College and the Maison
Française, she is lucky enough to be writing a DPhil on dramatic language and
its translation - which means that all her theatrical activites can now, of
course, count as research. She has translated several British or American plays into French, and a year ago she composed the script for the bilingual show Double Vision, but Emma was her first stage adaptation of a novel. It would have been hard to find a better text to work on than Jane Austen's humorous prose. The experience was so interesting it seems to have given Julie's personality an odd twist; she can no longer read a novel without wondering how it would look on stage. But doubtless
that will pass in time.
Katrina Richter - Choreographer
Shani Chachamu - Graphic Designer
Shani has designed the print and web publicity materials for Measure for Measure, The Well of the Saints, The Jew of Malta, Finally quiet in my head (a New Writing Festival play) and Wyrd Sisters, along with a few other small things here and there. She's getting quite good at this, but should stop before she goes completely nuts.
